ART SCHOOL debut their first collection with Fashion East for Autumn / Winter 2017 – a performative presentation in collaboration with Theo Adams Company.

The histories of influential art collectives like Diaghilev’s avant garde Ballet Russes and modernist collective The Bauhaus are re-interpreted to form a key starting point for the label. Derek Jarman and his work Chroma is used to inform the use of colour which sees soviet red dance with a yellow sunset dupion and a lime check.

By examining their own non-binary identities and how they personally navigate style, the designers have re-interpreted key pieces from their own wardrobes and from those of their close friends into a cohesive collection that reflects non-binary identity. The designers elevate queer style as a response to the times in which they live. ART SCHOOL present a collection that tells a story of queer style and hints at the new ground yet to be covered.

The transformation which takes place, to create a strange beauty is the desire of ART SCHOOL. This viewpoint on luxury fashion is one saturated in appreciation for the power of art. These are clothes of dancers and artists living free from constraints.

An exciting partnership with SWAROVSKI has enabled the designers to convey ideas of luxury in an authentic way, with the crystals elevating pieces to capture a divine vision of queer joy.

Eden Loweth graduated from BA Fashion at Ravensbourne in June 2016 receiving widespread praise for his collection’s portrayal of the evolving trans body. Tom Barratt graduated from BA Art Criticism, Communication and Curation at CSM in June 2016, his studies focused on feminist film aesthetics and the communication of queer style within counter-culture.
